Utrecht Valorisation Center

Utrecht Valorisation Center is a powerful boost for knowledge valorisation in the Utrecht Knowledge Region. According to the European Commission, Utrecht is Europe’s most competitive region. The Dutch government’s knowledge valorisation programme offers the Utrecht Knowledge Region, covering Utrecht and nearby towns like Amersfoort and Hilversum, the opportunity to capitalise on and further strengthen this position. For example, the knowledge region can realise its ambition of becoming one of the top 3 Dutch knowledge clusters by 2016. The unique Utrecht combination of three knowledge institutions (Utrecht University, Utrecht University of Applied Sciences, and University Medical Center Utrecht) has, together with regional authorities and private partners, taken numerous initiatives to encourage knowledge valorisation and entrepreneurship within the region. The aim of this is to make a significant contribution to the high-value labour market and innovation within the Netherlands. Important examples are the founding of UtrechtInc, one of the largest start-up incubators in the Netherlands, and Utrecht Science Park, home to knowledge institutions, research institutes (TNO, Hubrecht Institute, SRON) and businesses (e.g. Artemis and from 2013 onwards Danone).
