With over a 1,000 beds and more than 10,000 employees the University Medical Center Utrecht is one of the largest academic centers in the Netherlands. Patient care and biomedical research are closely linked, which creates an environment where scientific advancements quickly move from bench to bedside. The University Medical Center Utrecht finds itself in the middle of a vibrant biomedical research community: Utrecht Life Sciences.

In the new strategy ‘UMC Utrecht 3.0’ research is concentrated in six programs with each a limited number of disease targets. The programs Circulatory Health and Infection & Immunity strongly contribute to the ULS focus area Public Health – One Health. The programs Personalized Cancer Care and Regenerative Medicine & Stem Cells form a main part of the ULS focus area Cancer, Regenerative Medicine & Stem Cells.Clinical need questions form the starting point for the research that will be performed for the clinical syndromes defined within the programs. Via an innovation process that connects basic research to preclinical developments, to clinical trials and finally applied research, new clinical care will be developed. Our patients will highly benefit from the available expertise and innovative medical technological solutions that will result from cooperation between the ULS partners.
